It seems that we keep hearing more and more about the importance of "mindfulness" in our lives - for our stress levels, our presence, our connection. Did you know that mindfulness is an essential element of Pilates, by requiring focus, precision and breath?
Combining classical Pilates and Pre-Pilates exercise, the focus of my Pilates Mat Classes is to encourage safe, mindful, functional movement that benefits your life - whether that is being able to tone your body or twist to look out of the back window of your car when reversing. Each person has a different body, a different lifestyle, a different goal - my aim is to always give you a class that allows you to address what you need. For me, Pilates classes aren't about "muscling through" repetitive exercises - they are about getting to know your body, listen to what it needs, move it in ways that benefit you, and walk out feeling lifted up with a smile on your face.
If group classes aren't for you, then perhaps a private or semi-private is more suitable? Like doing a Pilates DVD in your lounge room, but with your own personal instructor there to help you along (and save you the neck strain of having to keep looking to see if you are doing the right thing). Gather your significant other, your gal pals, your mates, your mothers' group, your "ladies who lunch", your best group of blokes, or your buddies and contact me about working something out - either in a studio or in your own home/backyard.
Please bring a yoga mat/exercise mat and wear clothes that you can move freely in (activewear is perfect).
** And yes - I do specifically include men in the above. Pilates truly is for everyone (the inventor was a man!). A quick internet search will give you a glimpse of how many professional male athletes are full of Pilates praise. Normally, I'm not one for following a trend, but for this trend - c'mon fellas - get on board! Your bodies will thank you....and so might your golf handicap :)
